Physically Blesbok rams and ewes are remarkably similar. Their mass can be as much as 85 kg. A characteristic of the blesbok is the prominent white blaze on the face and a horizontal brown strip which divides this blaze above the eyes. Body colour is brown with a lighter-coloured saddle on the back, and the rump an even lighter shade. Both males and females have horns with the male’s horns being thicker . The black wildebeest is currently included in the same genus as the blue wildebeest . Black wildebeest males reach about 111 to 121 cm (44 to 48 in) at the shoulder and males typically weigh 140 to 157 kg (309 to 346 lb) . A distinguishing feature is the tail, which is long and similar to that of a horse .Its bright-white colour gives this animal the vernacular name of "white-tailed gnu", and also distinguishes it from the blue wildebeest, which has a black tail.
The black wildebeest has a dark brown or black coat, which is slightly paler in summer and coarser and shaggier in the winter. Males are darker than females. They have bushy and dark-tipped manes that, as in the blue wildebeest, stick up from the back of the neck. The hairs which compose this are white or cream-coloured with dark tips. On its muzzle and under its jaw it has black bristly hair. It also has long, dark-coloured hair between its forelegs and under its belly.

Suni are around 12–17 inches (30–43 cm) high at the shoulder and weigh 10–12 pounds (4.5–5.4 kg). They are usually reddish brown, darker on their back than their sides and legs. The belly, chin, throat and insides of legs are white. The nostrils are prominent red, and there are black rings around the eyes and above the hooves. Males have small horns, that are ridged most of their length and curve backwards close to their heads. Females do not have horns. Suni can make weak barking and whistling sounds. Our prime hunting area for Suni is in Kwazulu Natal in the North East of South Africa .

The bontebok is a tall, medium-sized antelope. They typically stand 80 to 100 cm (31 to 39 in) high at the shoulder. Body mass can vary from 50 to 155 kg (110 to 342 lb). Males are slightly larger and noticeably heavier than females .The bontebok is a chocolate brown colour, with a white underside and a white stripe from the forehead to the tip of the nose, although there is a brown stripe across the white near the eyes in most blesbok. The bontebok also has a distinctive white patch around its tail while this patch is light brown/tan in blesbok. The horns of bontebok are lyre-shaped and clearly ringed. Bontebok are exceedingly rare and only found in two regions of the South Africa . The average Red Hartebeest weight of a male is about 150 kg, and female is 120 kg. Their average shoulder height is 135 cm. Both male and females have horns but the thickness and volume of the horns of the bulls are slightly greater than that of the female. Their unique horns come up out the top of the skull and then hook backwards like handlebars. Hartebeests have an excellent sense of hearing and smell, although their sense of sight is poor. Arguably the most sort after African antelope specie . Also known as the “Grey Ghost” these are elusive and secretive animals making the hunting of mature older bulls extremely difficult .Kudu are one of the largest species of antelope. Bulls weigh 190–270 kg (420–600 lb), with a maximum of 315 kg (694 lb), and stand up to 160 cm (63 in) tall at the shoulder. The ears of the greater and Eastern Cape kudu are large and round. The Cape Eland , is a savannah and plains antelope found throughout Southern Africa . Eland are the largest antelope in Africa. An adult male is around 1.6 metres (5') tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 942 kg (2,077 lb) with an average of 500–600 kg (1,100–1,300 lb). The Southern impala is a medium-sized antelope found throughout southern Africa. Two subspecies are recognised—the common ( Southern) impala, and the larger and darker black-faced impala - found in Namibia. The impala reaches 70–92 centimetres (28–36 inches) at the shoulder and weighs 40–76 kg (88–168 lb). It features a glossy, reddish brown coat. The males have long slender, lyre-shaped horns .There are three recognised colour variations of the Southern impala – namely the Black , Saddle-back and white flanked . The Black Impala is completely black in colour while the Saddle –Back has a dark saddle on its back extending from the shoulders to the tail base . The Southern African giraffe is found throughout South Africa, southern Botswana, southern Zimbabwe and Namibia. The spots extend down the legs and get smaller. Fully grown giraffe stand 4.3–5.7 m (14.1–18.7 ft) tall, with males taller than females. The average weight is 1,192 kg (2,628 lb) for an adult male . The common duiker also known as the grey or bush duiker, is a small antelope found throughout Southern Africa .Generally, they are found in habitats with sufficient vegetation cover to allow them to hide. The Grey Duiker is the largest duiker found in Southern Africa and is a distinctive brown to dusty grey colouration . It grows to about 50 cm (20 in) in height and generally weighs 12 to 25 kg (26 to 55 lb) Only the males have horns .The Blue Duiker It is the smallest duiker in Africa .The blue duiker reaches 32–41 centimetres (13–16 in) at the shoulder and weighs 3.5–9 kilograms (7.7–19.8 lb). Sexually dimorphic, the females are slightly larger than the males and both sexes have horns . The Red Duiker is smaller than the Common Duiker and has a mass of 12 Kg (26 Lb). The upper forefront is a deep chestnut-red and the lower parts of the flanks and under belly is a pale chestnut colour. The nape and throat turn ash-grey as the animal ages. The grey rhebok is a medium-sized antelope weighing 19–30 kg (42–66 lb) with a long neck and narrow ears. The coat is short and dense and coloured in various shades of grey. Only the males carry horns, which are straight, sharp, ringed at the base . Generally confined to the higher areas of Southern Africa, they typically inhabit grassy, mountain habitats usually 1000 m above sea level, and carry a woolly grey coat to insulate them from the cold. The Common reedbuck or southern reedbuck is larger than the mountain reedbuck . It stands 80–90 cm (31–35 in) at the shoulder. The males weigh 68 kg (150 lb). It has distinctive dark lines running down the front of each of its forelegs and lower hindlegs and whitish rings around the eyes. Males bear forward-curving horns, with the base having a distinct band of pale, rubbery tissue. They prefer to lie in grass or reed beds in the heat of the day and feed during sunrise and sunset, or sometimes even at night. Old reedbucks are permanently territorial . Adult bushpig have a height of 66 to 100 cm (26 to 39 in) at the shoulder, and weigh from 55 to 150 kg (121 to 331 lb). They resemble the domestic pig, and can be identified by their blunt, muscular snouts, small eyes, pointed, tufted ears . Their colour varies from reddish brown to dark brown and becomes darker with age. Both sexes have a lighter-coloured mane which bristles when the animal becomes agitated. The upper parts of the face and ears are also lighter in colour. Their sharp tusks are fairly short and inconspicuous. All bushpig are hunted at night over bait. The Oribi is a small, slender antelope; it reaches nearly 50–67 centimetres (20–26 in) at the shoulder and weighs 12–22 kilograms (26–49 lb). The head-and-body length is typically between 92 and 110 centimetres (36 and 43 in)..This antelope features a slightly raised back, and long neck and limbs. Red Lechwe

Lechwe stand 90 to 100 cm (35 to 39 in) at the shoulder and weigh from 70 to 120 kg (150 to 260 lb). They are golden brown with white bellies. Males are darker in colour. The long, spiral-structured horns are vaguely lyre-shaped, they are found only in males. The hind legs are somewhat longer in proportion than in other antelopes, to ease long-distance running in marshy soil. Waterbuck are rather sedentary in nature. A gregarious animal, the waterbuck may form herds consisting of six to 30 individuals. The shaggy coat is reddish brown to grey, and becomes progressively darker with age. Males are darker than females. Though apparently thick, the hair is sparse on the coat. The hair on the neck is, however, long and shaggy. The average height is between 120 and 136 cm (47 and 54 in. Males reach approximately 127 cm (50 in) at the shoulder. Males typically weigh 198–262 kg (437–578 lb). The coat colour varies from brown to grey. The long, ringed horns, present only on males, curve backward, then forward. The Nyala is a spiral-horned and middle-sized antelope, between a bushbuck and a kudu. It is considered the most sexually dimorphic antelope. The male stands up to 110 cm (43 in )tall. Males weigh 98–125 kg (216–276 lb). Life expectancy of the nyala is about 19 years. The Nyala does not show signs of territoriality, and individual’s areas can overlap each other. They are very cautious creatures. Old males live alone . The Nyala is a highly sort-after trophy particularly with collectors of the spiral horned antelope . Only the males have horns . Burchell's zebra is a southern subspecies of the plains zebra. It is larger and heavier that the Cape Mountain Zebra . The Cape Mountain Zebra is only endemic to pockets of the Western and Eastern Cape of South Africa making it unique and rare . The skins of the buchell and Cape Mountain zebra have distinct difference . Stripes of the Cape Mountain zebra are narrower and therefore more numerous than the Burchell . Stripes on the head are narrowest, followed by those on the body. Much broader, horizontal stripes are found in the hind area of Cape mountain zebra, lacking the “shadow stripes” seen in the Buchell zebra . The common warthog is a medium-sized pig species, with a shoulder height from 63.5 to 85 cm (25.0 to 33.5 in) and a weight of 60 to 150 kg (130 to 330 lb). A warthog is identifiable by the two pairs of tusks protruding from the mouth and curving upwards, both male and female have tusks. The lower pair, which is far shorter than the upper pair, becomes razor-sharp by rubbing against the upper pair every time the mouth is opened and closed. The males have the identifiable two sets of warts on the either side of the face while the females only have one set. The head of the warthog is large, with a mane down the spine to the middle of the back. Sparse hair covers the body. Its color is usually brown to grey . Unlike the bushpig the warthog is hunted exclusively during the day . Warthog have terrible eyesight but do have an incredible sense of smell – they take flight at any disturbance or threat , mostly retreating to their underground burrow .

Roan antelope are one of the largest species of antelopes, only the Eland is larger. The body mass of males is 242–300 kg (534–661 lb) and a shoulder height typically around 130–140 cm (51–55 in) Named for their roan colour (a reddish brown), they have lighter underbellies, white eyebrows and cheeks and black faces. They have short, erect manes, very light beards and prominent red nostrils. The horns arch backwards slightly and a similar shorter version of the Sable antelope. Once threatened the population now thrives in South Africa .

The sable antelope is one of the most iconic and grand antelope species in Africa , commonly referred to as the Royal antelope . Males reach about 117–140 cm (46–55 in) at the shoulder and typically weigh 235 kg (518 lb) and females 220 kg (490 lb ).
The sable antelope has a compact and robust build, characterized by a thick neck and tough skin. It has a well-developed and often upright mane on its neck. Its general colouration is rich chestnut to black. Both sexes have ringed horns which arch backward . Like Roan , Sable were once too highly threatened in South Africa but now though game ranching the populations are buoyant and sustainable to hunt . Sable can be dangerous when wounded and approach must be taken with caution.

Gemsbok are the largest species in the genus Oryx. They stand about 1.2 m (3.9 ft) at the shoulder. Male gemsbok can weigh between 180 and 240 kg (400 and 530 lb).Gemsbok are light brownish-grey to tan in colour, with lighter patches toward the bottom rear of the rump. Their tails are long and black in colour. A blackish stripe extends from the chin down the lower edge of the neck, through the juncture of the shoulder and leg along the lower flank of each side to the blackish section of the rear leg. They have muscular necks and shoulders, and their legs have white 'socks' with a black patch on the front of both the front legs .Both male and female have long, straight horns- often the females possessing longer but thinner horns . The Golden Oryx is a colour variant of the Oryx ( Gemsbok ) .Golden Oryx stand about 1.2 m (3.9 ft) at the shoulder. Male Golden Oryx can weigh between 180 and 240 kg (400 and 530 lb. Steenbok resemble a small Oribi, standing 45–60 cm (16"–24") at the shoulder. Their coat is any shade from fawn to rufous, typically rather orange. The underside, including chin and throat, is white, as is the ring around the eye. Ears are large with "finger-marks" on the inside. Males have straight, smooth horns . Only the males have horns .There is a black crescent-shape between the ears, a long black bridge to the glossy black nose, and a black circular scent-gland in front of the eye . The Cape Grysbok has a rough, reddish sandy coat flecked in white. The head, neck and legs are less flecked and somewhat yellowish, while the inside of the ears, eye-rings, mouth area, throat and underside are white. There is a black "bridge" to the nose and a dark scent gland in front of the eye. It stands only 21" (45–55 cm) at the shoulder and weighs slightly more than 20 pounds (8–12 kg).. Males have short, sharp and smooth straight horns . The Caracal is a medium-sized wild cat native to Southern Africa .It is characterised by a robust build, long legs, a short face, long tufted ears, and long canine teeth. Its coat is uniformly reddish tan or sandy. It reaches 40–50 cm (16–20 in) at the shoulder and weighs 8–18 kg (18–40 lb) . Typically nocturnal, the caracal is highly secretive and difficult to observe. It is territorial, and lives mainly alone or in pairs. The ostrich, is a species of large flightless bird native to certain large areas of Africa. Their skin varies in color with some having light or dark grey skin and others having pinkish or even reddish skin. The spotted hyena is an unmistakable character of the Africa bush . Hyena have a strong and well developed neck and forequarters, but relatively underdeveloped hindquarters. The rump is rounded rather than angular, which prevents attackers coming from behind from getting a firm grip on it . Brown hyenas are distinctly different to spotted hyena and are distinguished by their long shaggy dark brown coat, pointed ears, and short tail. They are the rarest of all the hyena species. Their legs are striped brown and white, and adults have a distinct cream-colored fur ruff around their necks. Erectile hairs up to 305 mm (12.0 in) in length cover the neck and back. Shoulder height is 70–80 cm (28–31 in). Unlike the larger spotted hyena, there is no sizable differences between the sexes, although males may be slightly larger than females. Little introduction is required for this third member of the big five . Cape Hunt Safaris offers lion hunts in South Africa and Zimbabwe . Lion hunting in South Africa is done on foot and the cat is tracked each day until an opportunity presents itself. Alternatively lion hunting in Zimbabwe is conducted over bait . Lions spend much of their time resting; they are inactive for about 20 hours per day .Although lions can be active at any time, their activity generally peaks after dusk . Elephant have been one of the most sought after hunting species in Africa for centuries, specifically at the turn of the century during the rush of the ivory trade . Today elephant populations are sustainable in well managed areas of Africa with the bulk of the hunting happening in the concessionary areas of the surrounding National parks . During the day, they remain cool by staying in the water or mud. They emerge at dusk to graze on grasses. Grazing is a solitary activity and hippos are not territorial on land.
